Book Blogger Hop: Sept 27th - 3rd Oct

Welcome to the Blogger Hop hosted by Billy from Rambling of Coffee Addicted Writer. This weekly feature is a great way to connect with new people in the book blogging world. This week's Hop question was suggested by me.
This Week's Question:
What weekly memes do you follow on a regular basis?

My Answer:
The weekly memes I regularly follow are:
In My Mailbox (Hosted at @ The Story Siren): My favorite meme of all! It was discontinued by the host, but as of last Sunday (and as I just found out), this meme has returned (leading me to edit my BBH answer). I'm so looking forward to participate in it!
Book Blogger Hop (Originally created by  Jennifer @ Crazy For Books, now hosted by Billy @ Rambling of Coffee Addicted Writer): I like this feature because it gives me a chance to meet new blogging friends.
Teaser Tuesday (Hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading): This feature is a good way tell people about the books you're reading at the moment.
Top 10 Tuesday (Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish): I love listing things down, and occasionally participate in this meme when I like the topic.

The Payback by Simon Kernick

Review:
Having read this book, Dennis Milne becomes the most unforgettable character I have ever come across. This is the thrid and final book of the Dennis Milne series (however, I happened to read this one first).
Right from the beginning of the book he's planning for retirement from his job and looking forward to a peaceful and quiet life in Laos. Dennis, an ex-cop-turned-asssain, is sent to Phillipines to finish an assignment (which, no doubt, involves a murder). As things turn out, he defies his own boss, knowing well enough that his dream of retirement will be chattered and that he might even put himself in danger.

A Good Day to Die by Simon Kernick

Review:
Dennis Milne, an ex-cop and a British assasin on the run, is living a peaceful life in Phillipines under his false name "Mick Kane," that is until he finds out about the death of his ex-colleague Asif Malik, murdered back in London. Dennis decides to go back to avenge Malik's death despite knowing that by returning to his hometown he would be putting himself in danger. He arrives in London all alone, single-handedly against what might come against him. He came to know about Emma, a journalist investigating the same case, and asks for her help. Chasing down Malik's murderers eventually leads Dennis to a gang of paedophiles, which also includes some high-profile people.

Quotes from "A Good Day to Die" by Simon Kernick

Quotes from "A Good Day to Die" by Simon Kernick:
I loved this book and I'm sharing my favorite quotes out of it.

“The journey took me past the ramshackle stalls selling raw meat and fish, where the women gathered to barter in staccato tones; through gaggles of raucous schoolkids, heading home in their immaculate uniforms; past cheap tourist shops and girlie bars; across planks of wood that acted as bridges over the streams of effluent-laced water trailing beneath; under washing lines; through people's backyard; past noisy games of pool played under tin roofs. And all the way I nodded to people I knew, greeted a few of them by name, breathed in the hot, stinking air, and thought how much I loved this place.” (p. 34)

‘Well,’ he said, ‘f’r example, if they ask where you’ve come from, you could say “Behind me,” and if they asked where you’re going, you’d say “In front of me.”’ ‘I see,’ said Tristran, unimpressed.

‘Five kilometers to the lab,’ the pilot said. ‘I’ll have you there in two minutes.’ Langdon searched in vain for a seat belt. Why not make it three and get us there alive?

Top Ten Tuesday - Books I Would Love To See As A Movie

Weekly meme hosted at The Broke and the Bookish. It's about making bookish lists and sharing.
Top 10 Books I would Love to see as a Movie (in no particular order)

1. Timon's Tide by Charles Butler (Goodreads Amazon | My Review)
I have no idea why I loved this book. It's a simple tale about a boy Daniel who in childhood lost his brother Timon, his death an unsolved mystery. As Daniel is now grown up some unusual things begin to happen making him find about his brother's death. I really felt for Daniel when at times he feels the need of his lost older brother.

The Last 10 Seconds by Simon Kernick

Review:
The opening lines of the book are intriguing and so is the whole mystery. This books has a lot of twists and turns, and the author continues to surprise you till the last page. The story sounds pretty simple in the beginning but then gradually grows complex. DI Tina Boyd's team is after a murderer famously known as "Night Creeper." Whereas, Sean Egan is an undercover cop who is on an official mission. Both realize that things are far more difficult than they thought when they set out to do it. Sean has infiltrated a gang of dangerous criminals and put his own life at cost. On the other hand, Tina finds some clues that point towards the involvement of more (bigger and influential) people in the murders they are investigating, making it a bigger case. This book also shows you the corrupt side of politicians and law-enforcing agencies.

I rang off, stood for a while staring at the spindly bare trees in front of me as they rose up like gnarled, many-fingered hands in the winter night; wondering if I'd done the right thing by coming here and tearing up the past.
