The Call of the Wild by Jack London

Kidnapped from home and forced to live the life of a sled dog, Buck faces the harsh reality of life in the Yukon. Enslaved and passed from one owner to another, he witnesses the abuse and mistreatment of his fellow dogs at the hands of the human race, the like of which he had never imagined. Meanwhile, he realizes that his primordial instincts are returning to him. Buck, however, learns the ways of survival in this brutal life eventually becoming the leader of the pack.
His love and devotion to his final master, John Thornton, who saves him from a cruel family, is inexplicable. Feeling his forgotten natural instincts coming more strongly now, Buck gets attracted to the call sounded from the deep forest luring him to wilderness, and away from civilization.
One day, while Buck is away, the Yeehat Indians kill John Thornton. Stricken with grief and sorrow at the sight of his master's dead body, Buck attacks the Yeehats in revenge. He was no longer bound to a master, no longer bound to man.
The death of his master breaks his last bond with human race and Buck returns to the wild for good, answering the call of the wild.

My Love Affair With Books

I had been planning to read this book for a while and finally got hold of a copy this month.
This book seemed to me a little boring as I began to read it but soon I was absorbed in the story of Buck. I had never ever read a book that so beautifully and vividly illustrated the feelings of an animal. Reading the sort of animal brutality in the book almost made me cry. I couldn't help loving the book.

The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs

Picture Book Challenge: Book#04

It turns out to be an extraordinary day for Tom and Elena when one morning their ordinary goose lays a golden egg. The goose lays another golden egg the next day, and another and another. Tom and Elena won't remain poor anymore. But what happens when  one gold egg a day doesn't seem enough?
This is one of Aesop's well-known fables with a simple lesson that a greedy person loses everything.

Picture Book Challenge: Book#03

A tale by Grimm Brothers' about a Cat, Dog, Donkey, and Rooster who escape the farm life and their mean master and resolve to become musicians. But on their way to become musicians they meet a gang of robbers.

This Week's Question:
Do you ever wish you would have named your blog something different?

My Answer:
I went half mad trying to think of a proper name for my blog. Finally, I settled on Kero's Book Blog. (Kero being my nickname). I thought it would sound too common having your own name but now I realize that it suites me. The only problem is, I sometimes find my blog address too long: Kerosbookblog@blogspot.com.

I loved this week's question. How about you?

The Ring by Danielle Steel

I wanted to write a great deal about this book but I seem to have at a loss of words now that I'm getting round to review it.

Hitler has risen to power and Germany is at war. 19-year-old Ariana von Gotthard loses her home and family. She is only left with her mother's ring, the only bond connected with her family. Like her father she hates the Nazis.
Having saved her life twice, Lieutenant Manfred von Tripp, lets the now homeless girl stay in his house. Soon they fall in love and get married. During the fall of Berlin, however, Manfred is killed defending the Reichstag. Now there's nothing left for Ariana in Berlin.
A tiresome journey lands the now sick and pregnant girl in New York. Thinking that Ariana is a Jew too, a Jew called Paul Liebman marries her. Now it's too late for Ariana to tell them the truth about her being German, her previous husband being a Nazi officer, and her unborn child.
This book is really touching.
My Favorite Character: Lieutenant Manfred von Tripp

This Week's Question:
If you are a fan of Science Fiction what is your favorite book? If you haven't read Science Fiction before.... any inkling to? Anything catch your eye?

My Answer:
Honestly, I'm not good at reading sci-fi. Last year, I picked up War of the Worlds by HG Wells-I had watched the movie several times-but found it pretty boring left unfinished. But I do want to read some sci-fi in the near future.
